Meditation comes in all shapes and sizes.

Mine, a preference, clamoring for honesty, (get it, clam…ering 😂) and the release of deadening seriousness.
.
The playful, the sad, the true, is joyous self-acceptance.
.
No need to suffer. Or drag round an old story. Why protect yourself with fear?
.
Like a clam, I find my Mind a closed system, a playback of errors at times, and meditation for me and many students is the freeing awareness that second chances are all around us.
.
We can free ourselves at any moment from the burdening stories and judgements of the past. A forgiving energy is suddenly there.
.
We need only to decide.
.

Yesterday before sunset, I walked South East and s

Yesterday before sunset,
I walked South East and saw the marsh grass bowing North West.
.
I wanted to get to the back beach and home before it got too dark.
.
Giddy up. Too ambitious?
.
My hair whipped, blowing round, sticking to my lips.
I heard the flap of my windbreaker,
a rustle in scrub pines,
my heart beat faster
and I spun around
as if a stranger,
a coyote
might be
stalking?
.
Nope.
.
Just my windbreaker
and my mind. Lots of sand.
Again.
.
I decided to turn back.
A tad spooked.
.
When I walk at sunset in dunes,
my body remembers the fear dream,
the stuck in slow motion, can’t run, Steven King
thing. Always Cujo. Or an escaped convict like Magwitch, in ‘Great Expectations'.
.
I swallowed, walking with my eyes on the lighthouse and sun; her pink certainty.
Golden light. Blink. Blink.
.
I saw heart shaped clouds, and elephant clouds and baby elephants and flowers too.
.
I never expected the
yellow Asters,
shining below
waving grasses.
.
Or the single Astor shining forth in the sand,
saying,

“Ha! Gotcha! Boo!”
.
It’s funny how the Mind adores spooky 👻 tricks.

When all this beauty presides.
.

This evening I saw this sky break into shades of p

This evening I saw this sky break into shades of peach and violet with her hot pink eye.
.
She reminded me of the breaking surprise. The breaking surprise for me is the moment, not only of a setting sun, or breaking clouds, but breaking news, breaking moments of perception, breaking into deeper self-awareness, or the release of an old story.
.
Leonard Cohen, the legendary Canadian poet and singer, wrote about this sensation in the song “Anthem”circa 1992.
.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in.
.
Physical objects, mental objects, constructions of any kind will break.
.
But that’s where the forgiveness is and that’s where the resurrection is and that’s where the re-membering happens.
.
Walking in the dunes remembering this kind of love.
.

Today I saw this Atlantic Moon shell. . She remin

Today I saw this Atlantic Moon shell.
.
She reminded me of Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s book Gift from The Sea.
.
Written in 1955, Anne wrote yearning for solitude, inner peace and reflection.
.
“The world today does not understand the need to be alone,” she wrote.
.
Now it’s 2021 and I’m on the shore alone holding the same Moon shell she wrote about in her book.
.
I see the soft external shell, spiral inward, and culminate to one single eye, the inner gaze, the centering calm of being. Simple. Gorgeous.
.
I’m grateful to be in solitude and visit with @bridgetburgermaui today on Cape Cod.
.
Solitude used to scare me. Now it’s like the Moon Shell. A beautiful needed space for me to hold court with my own center; intuition and creativity.
.
I smell the marsh grasses and sea.
.
I am grateful Anne wrote about her inner life. Her own muse, helped me find mine.
.
Solitude for me now means: hours of quiet - writing poems, reading poetry, prayer, photography, drawing, doodling, beach-combing, gratitude practice, and making meals I love.
.
Physical, mental, creative, calming.
.
The Moon shell is the perfect shell to hold today.
.
