January: The beauty of the end of the paper whites and the beginning of emotional-autarky; the scientific term given to our ability to maintain emotional stability regardless of external circumstances. The antithesis of allowing someone to steel your joy or fawning to be a people pleaser.

Autarky arose from the ancient Greeks and Stoic philosophers. It points to the importance of choosing to value your response to adversity with a fierce, graceful will.
.
In the face of anxiety for our country and world challenges, I find myself practicing emotional- autarky as inoculation for joy, new seeds and strong roots.
